Kids :: Adventures in Babywearing

As I mentioned before, I am planning to walk Jack to school this year.

Yesterday we had a good time, but I found the stroller to be big, awkward and difficult to maneuver.

Not because the stroller sucks…no, my Britax B-agile is great. What sucks? The sidewalks in the city I live in! Most were installed without pedestrians, wheelchairs or strollers in mind. Driveways with curbs on either side! Cracks, missing sections! It was a total nightmare.

Jack looooves walking to school. It’s a great time for us to bond and talk. He wants to hold hands and I get lots of “I love you”s. We have to keep it going.

So, when I got home, I assessed my options.

I could try and maneuver the stroller through a nearby wash that runs from my house right to the school. But dirt roads + stroller is even more nerve wracking.

Or…I could wear Lulu. We had been thinking about it for a while. We find ourselves in many situations where the stroller is inconvenient. I decided to go to Target and see what they had to offer.

I saw the expensive Baby Bjorns…pass. I saw one for $15…no way that is comfy. Then right in the mid-range…the Moby Wrap. It was a more palatable price at $44.

I went home and watched a video on YouTube and figured out how to use it. Tried it on and put Lulu in and she seemed a little hesitant but it felt comfortable. I decided to test drive it for the first time this morning on the walk to school.

The upside:
It was mostly comfy. Felt a little tweak in my back, but I’m chalking that up to being out of shape and needing to strengthen my back.
I could hold hands with Jack almost the whole time and hold my coffee too. ❤
No struggling with the lumbering stroller the whole time.
Lulu seemed to love it. She fell asleep in the first 5 mins and stayed asleep all the way home.

The downside:
My back, but like I said, it should get better.
It was hard on the way home. I could really feel the strain in my legs, but it’s all uphill home also.
We got hot, but it was an abnormally warm morning.

The call:
Keeping it up! I feel really good and I think the extra calorie burn will come in handy too! All the cons will hopefully resolve themselves in time…

The adventure in babywearing will continue, for now.
