Remember that 30 day sweet free challenge I started…well, I failed. Ha! I knew I would and I tried. I made it to day 4 and the call of the granola bar ended me.

Well, I am still trying to keep my diet relatively healthy and depriving myself of a treat wasn’t working at all.

Today, I decided to go back to a tried a true recipe for chocolate- chip brownies using Trader Joe’s Reduced Guilt Brownie Mix and applesauce!

30 Day Sweet-free Challenge :: Day 2

I’d like to say today was better, but sigh, it was not.

The cravings were there but they didn’t kick in until after dinner today. Possibly they were held at bay by the use of gum.

I had some Extra Key Lime and it was good but the flavor doesn’t last long. I also had some Sugar-Free Bubble Yum bubble gum which is also short lived, flavor-wise but it blows some good bubbles, which was at the very least entertaining and a welcome distraction.

The menu for today was similar to yesterday. Breakfast, lunch and snacks were the same. Dinner was pulled pork sandwiches with strawberries.

All in all, I made it through…but I am not sure if I’ll make it! I want to, but I am missing that evening “treat”. Something cold and creamy or sweet and cakey is calling my name…loudly but sweetly.

30 Day Sweet-free Challenge :: Day 1

Day one is over…phew.

That got hard there at the end. It’s pretty obvious to me that I am seriously addicted to sugar y’all. That is my kind of white stuff.

There were definite times in the day when I felt the “itch” for sugar…around 2-3pm and after dinner.

Here’s the basics of what I ate (I eat fruit, so no need to point out that there is sugar in fruit)

Breakfast: English muffin with egg and bacon
Lunch: turkey sandwich with a nectarine
Dinner: shredded beef enchiladas and Spanish rice
Snacks: popcorn and a banana with a tablespoon of natural peanut butter
Drinks: black coffee and diet soda (also water)

I am holding back the snippy attitude that is boiling beneath the surface. I am sure Tim has noticed, but he’s being cool.

Hoping this gets easier. Doesn’t help that there is sugar all over the place.

30 Day Sweet-free Challenge :: Countdown

20120823-222308.jpg

The good news is, I didn’t gain any weight in my pregnancy. 9 days after giving birth I was 2lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight.

The bad news, I was up 25lbs from my low weight in Feb ’11. Going through the big “D” and relocating back to So Cal took a toll on my weight loss progress.

Now that Lulu is getting older and Jack is starting school again…I can get back on the exercise bandwagon and walk him to school in the mornings.

Breastfeeding should boost my calorie burn as well, as we hit that sweet 3-6 month era (where you apparently kick your pregnancy fat store’s booty).

But there is one little vice that needs addressing. Sweets. Baked goods, ice cream, fro yo…pie. I’m hooked! Again!!

I got weaned a bit during my 80lb weight loss in 2009-10. I was eating a Skinny Cow at night and those Trader Joe’s brownies made with applesauce were around a lot too…but I rarely ate extra pasta or bread during that time either.

To get back on track and finish losing the weight I started losing in ’09, the first thing I am going to do is detox off the sugar.

I have set a challenge for myself and you are welcome to join me…30 days, starting on Monday August 27th, 2012 and ending on Tuesday September 25th, 2012, I will not be eating any sweets.

The rules:

    No candy
    No baked goods aside from part of a meal (pizza crust, 1 cup of pasta) but no extras (like rolls, garlic bread, bread n butter…etc)
    No ice cream or frozen yogurt
    No pudding
    Just no dessert in general

What’s ok:

    Popcorn
    Fruit
    Nuts (carefully)
    Nut butters (also carefully)

Basically, I need to kick my dependency on nighttime sweets…which is leaking over into daytime sweets too. Cold turkey seems like the way to go for me.

In addition to foods that are ok, I am allowing myself:

    Gum
    Mints (like Tic Tacs and Altoids)
    And Diet Soda (I know, I know…but I need something)

Now you know, and I can be accountable for it. Let you know how it’s going on Monday when I start.

In the meantime, I am finishing off all the sweets in the house (not binging or anything, just letting them naturally run out without replacing them) and running out the clock. Might have to hit Yogurtland one more time too…

Wish me luck!!!
